Normally I'm 100% against "non-Air Jordan" Jordans, mainly for the lack of quality and technology utilized, but this time the Jumpman Folks really went all out for the Olympics and dropped (in my opinion) the hottest Jordan since the XVIII's. Containing obvious inspiration from the X's, the Jordan Olympia (the name of the shoe will have to change for the fact that adidas spent upwards of $100 million to buy the rights to be the exclusive sponsor of the '08 games) will be worn by Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony when they play in Beijing, and will release in various colorways. For the first time in years, Jordan Brand actually decided to use Zoom air on a non-Air Jordan shoe, aside from what looks to be an awesome speed lacing system, the Jordan Olympia doesn't scream tech' like the Hyperdunks, but the magnificent design will definitely earn these a spot in mine (and many others') collections.

Although the official word from Nike is that the Air Yeezy's are just a sample made only in Mr. West's size 12, and are not due to release in the near future, 90% of the hype faithful out there waiting on the shoe could really care less and will continue to hold onto their hope of riding the fashion tsunami known as Kan' the Louis Vuitton Don until they can find their own niche, which isn't a shame or a sin, per se. So whether you're patiently holding on to your $200 (with the ridiculously high quality amount of full grain leather, patent leather, and suede used on the shoe, not to mention Mr. West trademark for high-end fashion, you'd be stupid not to expect at least Air Jordan dolllars), or just wondering what the hype is about, G-L-I has you covered on the latest developments of the Air Yeezy. I have to admit I really like how these look, as a collaboration between mega-platinum producer/rapper Dr. Dre and Monster Cables, "Beats By Dr. Dre" is a high end headphone developed "specifically for Hip-Hop music", with similar noise-canceling technology as the ever so hyped Bose Quiet Comfort 3, which sends out "anti-noise"(sound waves at the general frequencies of ambient noise) to "cancel" surrounding noises. "Beats" are terrific in both aesthetic and performance value, with its sleek black surface and terrific base, Hip-Hop fans should think twice before investing $400 on the QC3's, "Beats" is also iPhone compatible, including a microphone for phone conversations, and call/text alert sounds that stop music playback when the phone is occupied. After much research and testing, the QC3 and QC2, are simply too good to pass up at the same price, but for some Hip-Hop specific users, "Beats by Dr. Dre" is definitely something to consider.

When it comes to breaking grounds in retail advertisement, marketing giants Calvin Klein simply has no equal, for their new seductive lingerie line (I think), CK has wisely employed none other than racially ambiguous (she's Cuban, but along with Cassie, Amerie, J. Lo, etc likeable regardless of your race, just your sexual inclination) Model/Actress Eva Medes, although Eva is about 10 pounds too thin in my opinion (no to mentioned over airbrushed in the photos). This ad campaign is a hit. I'm gonna be cheap and call it this week's eye candy, so fella's are gonna have to wait 'til next week.

Again, starting with Boston, widely regarded as the weakest link in the "Big Three" on both ends of the court, Ray Allen has done nothing in these playoffs to make us think otherwise. That's not to say he's not still capable of All Star performances, he's just happened to be in the biggest shooting slump of his career in the most important time.

There was a day when "Sugar Ray" and "Jesus" were synonymous, as Ray Allen was the NBA's definition of smooth. His handle is elusive but never forced, his forays to the basket are as graceful as they come, and oh, god, that jumpshot, God never intended for man to shoot, that's why the only one that can is Jesus.

Those days seem behind us now as at times in these playoffs Ray hit so many bricks he could rebuild the old Boston Garden, but to think that he can't just go off on you would be a terrible mistake. As the Pistons learned in Game 5, Sugar Ray is still capable of stabbing you in the heart.

Allen's strengths are obviously his spot up shooting and shooting in transition, although his pull up jumper is also among the best in the league. Over the years Allen has learned to counter his impeccable shooting with pump fakes and drives to the basket, most forget that he came in as a high flyer and a Slam Dunk contestant (although he was terrible in the Dunk Contest). Allen is also among the league leaders in all time free throw shooting percentage, but is prone to clanging one (or both) in crunch time, Paul Pierce on the other hand is a terrific crunch time freethrow shooter, even all bounces go his way.

On the LA side, to keep things short, Kobe Bryant is the single greatest and most talented athlete on this planet with no discernible weaknesses, which includes the fact that he's also the best defensive player in the league. Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and James Posey better wear some ankle braces.

P.S. : Paul Pierce is not going off for 40 again....

This is the matchup most likely to be overlooked by sportswriters and critics alike, as the point is by far the most important position with the most responsibility.

Starting with Boston, I'm sure we can all agree that without the emergence of Rondo, the Celtics without a doubt wouldn't have lasted even past the second round, his quickness in attacking the basket put together with his sense of positioning of his teammates allow him to play the position in the true sense of the words point guard. The one thing that Rondo stands head and shoulders above most point guards is his rebounding, especially on the offensive boards, only Jason Kidd is a better rebounder at the position, his athleticism put together with his knack for the ball makes him a serious rebounding threat.

Now, with the positives out of the way we can mention his glaring weaknesses. First, his inconsistency and the inability to consistently knock down even a 15 foot jumpshot seriously hurts his team's offensive rhythm. Opponent defenses are often seen taking advantage of Rondo's shooting woes and "roaming" their point guard on double teams and help, the ball is often forced back into Rondo's hands at the end of the shot clock, and Rondo, reluctant to take the shot, will often be seen passing to one of the big three only to have them force up an airball while the shotclock buzzer goes off. His lack of experience is the most obvious weakness that Derek Fisher may take advantage of, so the difference maker for Rondo may be if his aggresiveness can overcome his inexperience on the big stage.

On the L.A. side, Derek Fisher seems to be the polar opposite to Rajon Rondo. Fisher is one of the leagues best knock down shooters, with seemingly unlimited range, and will shoot regardless if there's a defender in his face or not. Unlike most other spot up three point shooters, Fisher has a terrific pull up jumpshot, from mid range all the way out to the three point line. As an added bonus to his shooting abilities, his shot is also among the highest arcing in the league, as most of the makes don't even touch the rim, and much more likely to get a shooter's bounce.

If you start to think Derek Fisher is just a shooter, then you're terribly mistaken. Having played with Kobe Bryant for nine seasons, D-Fish knows exactly where his superstar likes to have the ball, and althought Lamar Odom and Kobe excel at pushing the ball up, Fisher can also push the ball up court or on the break with scary efficiency.

For a man in his mid-thirties, Derek Fisher has kept himself in unbelievable conditioning, and hasn't missed a game in three seasons, he was quick enough to not get burned by Allen Iverson, strong and tough enough to defend Deron Williams as well as anyone could, and kept Tony Parker from flashing his Finals MVP form in the West Finals.

As mentioned before, Derek Fisher's biggest advantage against Rondo is his playoff experience, having won three championships with the Lakers as either a starter or a sixth man, and went to the West Finals last year with the Jazz, Fish is as seasoned as a vet as they come, with leadership that all young point guards should aspire to have, he treats every game as his last, as he will often be seen diving out of bounds, slapping loose balls away, and hustling back on defense.

The LA Times reported that league sources revealed to them that Kobe Bryant has won his first MVP award, and will be awarded the trophy next week.

"The award, selected by NBA writers and broadcasters, figured to go to either Bryant or New Orleans guard Chris Paul, who guided the Hornets to second place in the Western Conference in the regular season.

Bryant's season capped a massive turnaround from a tumultuous off-season in which he asked to be traded.

The Lakers went from shaky preseason forecasts to winning the top spot in the tough West at 57-25. The Lakers then swept Denver in the first round of the playoffs, with Bryant averaging 33.5 points, although the votes had been cast by then.

Bryant, 29, lost a little in the scoring column during the regular season after winning scoring titles the last two years at 35.4 and 31.6 points a game. He was second to LeBron James at 28.3 a game during the 2007-08 season, but his defense was notably better and he averaged 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists, numbers that were tied for the second- and fourth-best outputs of his career.

He also deferred to teammates much more than in the last few seasons and rarely forced his will on games, a trait that saddled him in the past.

Despite his explosive on-court ability, Bryant never engendered much MVP support until this season. He was third in the voting last season, fourth two seasons ago, and did not receive a vote three years ago when the Lakers failed to make the playoffs.

He was fifth when the Lakers last advanced to the NBA Finals, in 2004.

As the 2007-08 regular season wound down, Bryant spoke about the MVP award.

"MVP nowadays is not an individual award," he said last month. "You really have to make your teammates better and elevate your ballclub. For me to be nominated in that race is a tremendous honor because that's really been one of the criticisms that people have had of me, is how well do I make my teammates better. From that standpoint, I feel like I've already won."

The Lakers usually let the fortunes of their players rest on their own achievements, but the team took the added step of creating a Bryant-for-MVP campaign by sending material to NBA writers around the league.

The concept mimicked an old-style political election campaign and consisted of bumper stickers, campaign buttons, red suspenders and a letter from "campaign manager" Jerry Buss, who urged writers to vote for Bryant.

Just when you thought all the beef subsided, the long anticipated return of Gilbert Arenas stirred up even more media hype as Gil boldly proclaimed himself "The best end of quarter, end of half, end of game player in the NBA" on his blog, and that "They may have the 'Second Best Player'in the NBA, but I'm the best player in the clutch", and finished off with "I'll talk to the media once I hit a couple of game winners".

Verdict: Judging by his performance in Game 1, LeBron will most likely save his scoring for the fourth quarter every game and the Cavaliers will eliminate the Wizards in 6.

5. Chris Bosh Vs Dwight Howard

The junior version of Olajuwon vs young Shaq? OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, especially the Olajuwon part, but for these two, greatness is not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Howard dominates Toronto's soft front line routinely with close range hooks, monster slams and putbacks, and is capable of outrebounding any frontline in the league on his own. While Bosh is among the best players in recent memory to blow by his defender with fakes and jab steps to get to the basket, not to mention the free throw line, and his mid-range jumper is nearly flawless, with range out to 20 feet, he's a matchup nightmare for any big man in the league.

Verdict: Tie, Orlando's superior supporting cast will take them over the top and into the second round, not to mention these two likely won't be guarding each other. Rasho Nesterovic may draw the unenviable task of containing Howard, while the task of defending Bosh may fall on the hands of Orlando's $120 Million Dollar Man Rashard Lewis.

As the Lakers travel to the home of the Nike HQ to play the Blazers, Kobe took some time off to reveal the Hyperdunk, part of Nike's complete Olympic Collection, could these be the real future of basketball footwear?

"Nike’s lightest and strongest basketball shoe owes its existence to Nike’s revolutionary Flywire technology as it made its transition from track spikes to basketball. Flywire is the innovation driving Nike’s strongest and lightest footwear. Super-strong nylon filaments provide precise support akin to the suspension cables in a bridge, and allow a radical reduction in weight with material only where it’s needed for structure.

Rigorous testing was required to translate the technology into basketball. In running, the typical forces are straight ahead, but in basketball, footwear must accommodate a 200-pound basketball player landing on his feet with upwards of 2000 pounds of force. Then there’s lateral forces with side to side cutting and 45-degree lateral moves which all require exact stability in the upper. In Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL) testing, basketball wear-testers cut with the ball in an early prototype as minimal as a ballet slipper, yet the shoe held up. It didn’t “tube-sock” as researchers call it – the shoe didn’t roll over athletes’ ankles. Instead, it supports them ensuring they don’t invert their ankles.

Before testing with athletes, the NSRL developed something they called “The Roman Sandal.” Simply board and straps, the researchers developed the prototype to see exactly where the shoe needed support to determine the Flywire placement. As NSRL researcher Matt Nurse explains, “We figured, ‘What’s the bare minimum the shoe can be and still work?’ Now the designers could literally wrap it in plastic wrap and we’d know it would work.”

But, the Nike Hyperdunk’s designer Eric Avar did far more than that. He created a shoe with the style of Nike’s classic basketball footwear from the original Air Flight Huarache in the early ‘90s to the Huarache 2K4. The Nike Hyperdunk’s upper is encased in a web of Flywire filaments. As work on it evolved, so did the outsole. The design and research team saw that with a more flexible midsole and outsole, a Flywire upper has a more dynamic fit. The shoe now marries Flywire with Nike’s other new cutting-edge technology, Lunarlite foam, the super light springy cushioning in the forefoot, and Zoom Air in the heel. A small keyhole at the ankle ensures the upper stays with the leg in those hard-angle cuts, and the flex grooves between each toe allow players to articulate and flex each toe for added stability, flexibility and comfort. At just 13 ounces, the Nike Hyperdunk weighs three ounces less than the average basketball shoe."
